Vacancy for the post of support/outreach worker
Hours: 10 hours per week. This post will include some evening work, occasional weekend work.
Wages: £10 per hour (6 months – temp post)
Location: The post holder will be expected to work from the office based at 92 Tomlinson Avenue, Luton, LU4 0QQ and occasional outreach work.
We are looking for a highly motivated person who believes in the potential of Carers in the African Caribbean community. The post holder will co-ordinate and manage the outreach work of African Caribbean Carers Support Group, along with a small yet dedicated and supportive staff team to assist Carers to explore and action their issues in supportive ways.
Whilst a relevant qualification is desirable, the experience of supervising volunteers, managing projects, working directly with Carers, and being able to engage with people are key features of this post.
Our service has been supporting Carers since 2003 and this is one of the Group’s key objectives. The role of the Carers support and Outreach Worker is pivotal to helping us achieve our objectives, as Carers’ Support and Outreach Worker, the post holder will support the provision of services to our Carers, primarily through our group activities but also through offering on 1-2-1 support to new Carers. The post holder will also ensure direct support to members. A key part of this role will be to liaise with local and national partners to raise the awareness about issues of carers and ensure Carers events including healthy cook and eat sessions are properly organised.
The post holder will also assist in the direct provision of support to carers through a variety of methods, including health issues specific to African Caribbean Carers who may have much higher risks of diseases such as diabetics, strokes, high blood pressure, obesity, prostate cancer, Alzheimer, dementia overweight and mental health.
The post holder will also assist in the coordination of volunteers who will support with the running of the group.
